Some patients have reported changes in behavior,
agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions
when attempting to quit smoking while taking
CHANTIX or after stopping CHANTIX. If either you.
your family or caregiver notice agitation, depressed
mood, or changes in behavior that are not typical for
you, or if you develop suicidal thoughts or actions, stop
taking CHANTIX and call your doctor right away.
A B O U T QUITTING SM O K IN G
Quitting smoking is hard for most people because:
• Nicotine in cigarettes causes physical addiction.
• Some psychological and emotional triggers can
make you want to smoke.

A B O U T CHANTIX
• CHANTIX is a prescription medicine to help
adults 18 and over stop smoking.
• CHANTIX has not been studied with other stop
smoking treatments.
• In studies, it reduced the urge to smoke.
• Quitting smoking can lower your chances of having
lung disease, heart disease, or getting certain types of
cancer that are related to smoking.

B E F O R E YOU ST A R T USING CHANTIX
Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions.
Tell your doctor if you:
• Have ever had depression or other mental health
problems.
• Have kidney problems or get kidney dialysis. You
may be prescribed a lower dose of CHANTIX.
• Have any allergies.
• Are pregnant or plan to get pregnant. CHANTIX has
not been studied in pregnant women. It is not known
if Cl IANTIX can hurt your unborn baby. It is best to
stop smoking before you get pregnant.
• Are breast-feeding. Although not studied, CHANTIX
may pass through breast milk. Talk with your doctor
about the best way to feed your baby.
Tell your doctor about all your medicines. Include
over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal
products. Be sure to tell your doctor if you take:
• insulin • asthma medicine • blood thinners
Medicines like these
may
work differently when you
quit smoking.
You should not use CHANTIX while using other
treatments to quit smoking.

The most common side effects of Cl IANTIX are:
• nausea • sleep problems (trouble sleeping or vivid,
unusual or strange dreams) • constipation • gas • vomiting
Tell your doctor if side effects bother you or do not go
away. There are other side effects of CHANTIX. Ask

W HAT SH O U LD YOU AVOID W HILE
TAKING CH A N TIX ?
Use caution driving or operating machinery until you
know how quitting smoking with CHANTIX may
affect you.

HOW SHOULD YOU TAKE CH A N TIX ?
• Take Cl IANTIX exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
1. Choose a quit date to slop smoking.
2. Start CHANTIX 1
week (7 days) before your quit date.
• You can smoke until your quit date.
• Stop smoking
by
your quit date.
3. Take CHANTIX after eating. Take CHANTIX with
a full glass (8 ounces) of water.
4. Take CHANTIX for up to 12 weeks.
5. If you have completely quit smoking by 12 weeks,
your doctor may prescribe another 12 weeks of
CHANTIX to help you stay quit.
6. If you slip up and smoke, you can keep taking
CHANTIX. Some people need a few weeks
for CHANTIX to work best.
CHANTIX comes as a white tablet (0.5 mg) and a blue
tablet (1 mg).
